Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation

Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance and subsequent confirmation for a new Star Wars film.

The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, leaving Isaac's stance on future Star Wars involvement somewhat ambiguous. While initially expressing reluctance, stating in 2020 he'd only return for "another house or something," he later told Variety in 2022 that he was "open to anything."

Isaac's past criticisms of Disney, particularly regarding the rejection of his proposed Poe/Finn romance, haven't dampened the excitement. Similarly, John Boyega, who also voiced past frustrations with Disney, has hinted at openness to future roles.

This renewed interest centers around the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, focusing on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has publicly expressed her desire for Boyega's return, making a reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio – Rey, Finn, and Poe – a strong possibility.

The potential for announcements at Star Wars Celebration 2025 is high, but fans may face a longer wait than anticipated for the Rey film's release. Due to repeated delays, the earliest projected release date is now December 17, 2027. The film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, remains without a firm release date despite Disney's numerous announced Star Wars projects.
