Omori Cancels Switch and PS4 Physical Release in Europe

Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has unfortunately canceled the game's physical release for the Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. This news has left many fans disappointed, particularly given the anticipation surrounding the game's multilingual European localization.

A String of Delays Leading to Cancellation

The cancellation announcement, made via Twitter (X), cites technical difficulties with the multilingual European localization as the reason. While Meridiem Games declined to provide further details beyond their initial statement, a history of delays contributed to the ultimate decision. Initially slated for a March 2023 release, the physical edition was subsequently pushed back to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025. Pre-orders were affected, with Amazon notifying customers of each postponement before the final cancellation.

This cancellation is particularly frustrating for European fans, as it prevents the official release of the game in Spanish and other European languages. While importing a US copy remains an option, this isn't the ideal solution for many players.

For those unfamiliar, Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG following Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event. The game masterfully blends the real world with Sunny's surreal dream world, where he adopts the persona of Omori. Originally released on PC in December 2020, the game expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. It's worth noting that the Xbox version was later removed due to an unrelated incident involving an inappropriate T-shirt design sold by OMOCAT in 2013.
