Oblivion Remastered Mods Released Online

May 24,25

Bethesda has officially confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered does not include official mod support, yet this hasn't deterred the game's passionate community. Within hours of the unexpected release of Bethesda and Virtuos' reimagined version for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, fans have already shared a variety of unofficial mods on the popular platform, Nexus Mods.

At the time of writing, an impressive 22 mods are accessible on Nexus Mods. The first mod available enabled PC users to customize their desktop by swapping the standard Oblivion Remastered shortcut with one of two images featuring the game's notorious Adoring Fan. Other mods include options to bypass the introductory Bethesda and Virtuos logo screens. Additionally, there are mods that adjust gameplay elements, such as tweaking the Wizard’s Fury spell and removing the in-game compass.

Despite Bethesda's usual encouragement of mod support in their games, they've made it clear through an FAQ on their website that Oblivion Remastered will not support official mods. This announcement has only fueled the community's drive to prove otherwise. Nexus Mods user GodschildGaming, for instance, released an Iron Longsword damage mod, stating in the description, "This is just to prove modding is possible. Bethesda says no mod support, I say false. It really is Unreal slapped on top of Oblivion, the data folder is nested in a lot more folders but same concept."

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered hit the shelves today, marking 19 years since the original game's debut. As more players dive into the remastered version in the coming weeks and months, the modding community is expected to grow, introducing increasingly diverse and innovative ways to personalize the gaming experience. While we anticipate the arrival of more mods, you might be interested in exploring why some players consider this release more of a remake than a remaster, and the reasoning behind Bethesda's choice of the "Remastered" label.
