Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Mouse Rumors Taking Shape
The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning lends significant credence to earlier rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality.
The reveal trailer showcases detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to flat-bottomed connectors. These then move across the surface, mimicking mouse movement on a mousepad. A visible slider pad on one connector further supports this theory.
Pre-reveal speculation centered on an internal Joy-Con sensor, similar to those in computer mice. While Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed this feature or its implications, fans envision its use in games like Civilization, traditionally better suited to mouse and keyboard controls. However, given Nintendo's innovative history, first-party software could utilize this in entirely new ways. The possibilities remain open.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding potential mouse support and a new Joy-Con button, several details about the Switch 2 are confirmed. Officially named the Nintendo Switch 2, its release is slated for 2025, and a new Mario Kart title is in development.
