Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

Nintendo has officially announced the pricing for upgrading two more games from the original Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. Unfortunately, these upgrades come with a hefty price tag.

While The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom require a $9.99 upgrade to transition from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that amount each.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service on the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Breath of the Wild can purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to enjoy these enhancements.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in its Star-Crossed World. On the other hand, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition features a new content suite called Jamboree TV, which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera, available separately. This edition also offers upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although the U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available—potentially due to uncertainties related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 needed for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.

The upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV is similarly priced, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99. This higher upgrade cost may be linked to the $80 price tag of both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, which are $20 more expensive than their original Switch versions, priced at $59.99 each.

For those not upgrading, here are the U.S. prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no additional cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, there is currently no similar offer for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The demand was as high as expected, leading Nintendo to warn U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to overwhelming demand.
