NIKKE Fans Disappointed with Evangelion Crossover Event

May 26,25

It looks like Shift Up's crossover with Neon Genesis Evangelion in Goddess of Victory: NIKKE didn't quite live up to the expectations set by fans. In a recent interview, Nikke's producer shared insights into what they believe went wrong with the Nikke x Evangelion collaboration that launched in August 2024.

What Went Wrong?

Shift Up identified several shortcomings in the Evangelion collab event. While the event featured Rei, Asuka, Mari, and Misato in outfits that stayed true to their original designs, player engagement was less than anticipated. Initially, the designs crafted by the Shift Up and Nikke team were considered too erotic by Evangelion's creators, leading to a toned-down version. Although these modified designs satisfied the licensors, they failed to capture the enthusiasm of the player base.

What Did the Players Think?

The feedback from players highlighted that the issues extended beyond just the character outfits. There was a lack of incentive to invest in the limited-time characters and costumes, especially since the skins didn't offer much in terms of uniqueness. For instance, the priciest option, Asuka's gacha skin, was too similar to her standard model, which did not entice players to spend.

Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is celebrated for its bold, over-the-top anime aesthetics and engaging storylines. However, recent collaborations have been seen as diluting this unique identity, leaving players feeling that the effort and rewards of the events are not commensurate. While Nikke has a solid foundation, the uninspired designs and the overall execution of the Evangelion event left much to be desired. Shift Up has acknowledged the feedback and is committed to considering it for future events, with hopes of improving their offerings.

You can explore both Neon Genesis Evangelion and Goddess of Victory: NIKKE on the Google Play Store. Here's hoping that Shift Up can turn things around and deliver exceptional content in the upcoming months.
