Netflix Cancels Stories, Yet Playable
Netflix has officially announced the closure of its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, marking the end of a brief yet notable experiment in narrative gaming. This decision may come as a surprise to many, especially given the solid player base that these games had cultivated. So, why did Netflix pull the plug on Netflix Stories? Let's dive in for the full story!
As reported by Variety, this move is part of a larger strategic shift within Netflix Games. The company is now pivoting its focus towards mobile titles that include party games, children's games, mainstream releases, and more interactive experiences suitable for TV play.
Despite this closure, Boss Fight Entertainment, the creative force behind the Netflix Stories series, will continue their collaboration with Netflix on other projects, including the highly anticipated Squid Game: Unleashed.
Is Netflix Stories Shutting Down?
Despite facing some criticism, Netflix Stories games have consistently held a strong position among the most-played titles on the Netflix Games platform. Recent reports show that it ranks fourth in the Netflix Games top 10 carousel, a list based on playtime rather than downloads.
Looking ahead, the final interactive title under the Netflix Stories banner will be Love Is Blind: NYC. Following its release, no new games will be developed under this series. This announcement comes on the heels of the Netflix Stories app teasing its next game, The Love Contract, which was slated for an April 8th release. Unlike its predecessors, The Love Contract was not based on any existing Netflix IP but was an original romance story involving an actress navigating a complex love triangle with a Hollywood star and a billionaire amidst fame, scandal, and fake dating. Unfortunately, this game has now been cancelled.
While no new titles will be added, the existing Netflix Stories games will remain accessible. Fans can still enjoy titles such as Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple. However, planned sequels like Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have been cancelled.
That's the full scoop on the cancellation of Netflix Stories! If you're a fan of Netflix shows, you might want to check out these games on the Google Play Store before they're gone.
