Neil Druckmann: No Promises on The Last of Us Part 3

If you're eagerly awaiting news about a potential The Last of Us Part 3 game, prepare yourself for some disappointing tidings. The series creator, Neil Druckmann, recently dashed any hopes of a sequel during an interview with Variety. The conversation primarily focused on the highly anticipated TV series, but when asked about a third installment, Druckmann delivered a definitive response:

“I was waiting for this question,” he said, sighing. “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”

While his words seem conclusive, whether or not you choose to trust him depends on your perspective. At the moment, Naughty Dog is fully immersed in developing Interloper, a sci-fi project announced at The Game Awards last December. Given the early stages of development and the absence of any concrete release timeline, it's unlikely the team will turn their attention to The Last of Us Part 3 anytime soon. Druckmann’s comments could be strategic, cautious, or even final—it's anyone's guess.

In the meantime, fans of the franchise can look forward to the second season of the TV series, premiering on Max on April 13. While Druckmann remains uncertain about the total number of seasons needed to adapt Part 2, an HBO executive hinted in February that four seasons might be the ideal conclusion for the show.
