MultiVersus to End After Season 5 in May

May 13,25

Player First Games has announced that MultiVersus Season 5 will be the final chapter for the Warner Bros. platform fighting game, concluding on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio shared this news through a blog post on their website, marking the end of support for the crossover brawler that launched on May 28 of the previous year. Season 5 is set to kick off next week on February 4 and will run until the game's final day. At that point, online play will cease, but players will still have access to all their earned and purchased content in offline modes, including local gameplay and training.

In a heartfelt message, the MultiVersus team expressed gratitude to the community: “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

Player First Games also announced that real-money transactions for MultiVersus are no longer available as of today, though players can still use Gleamium and character tokens to access in-game content until the end of support on May 30. The game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.

The decision to end MultiVersus comes after Warner Bros. Discovery labeled the project a major disappointment. During a financial call in November, the company revealed that MultiVersus underperformed significantly, leading to a $100 million writedown in its games sector. This added to a total of $300 million in writedowns following the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Additionally, Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad is set to leave the company after a challenging 2024, as reported by Variety last week.

"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” stated chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels during the November call.

Despite the game shutting down just days after its one-year anniversary, Season 5 promises to go out with a flourish. Alongside typical seasonal updates, new characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman will join the fray. Lola Bunny, from the Looney Tunes, will be unlockable as a daily calendar reward, while Aquaman, the DC superhero, will be available through the battle pass, both starting next week.
