How Big Is the Monster Hunter Wilds Day One Patch File Size?

Mar 04,25

Monster Hunter Wilds' substantial day-one patch is now available. While the 18GB file size is significant, downloading it is crucial for optimal gameplay. Initially released for PlayStation 5, the update is expected to roll out across other platforms. Capcom has yet to provide official patch notes detailing the changes.

Many speculate the patch incorporates high-resolution textures, absent from review copies. This would account for the large file size, as high-resolution assets demand considerable storage. The update may also include PS5 Pro enhancements, aligning with Capcom's confirmation of PS5 Pro support at launch.

Bug fixes are another likely inclusion. While extensively tested, some issues remain to be addressed, and a day-one patch is the ideal solution.

Despite its "day-one" designation, pre-order players can likely download it before launch. Those with slower internet connections should prioritize downloading before February 28th for a smoother initial experience.

This patch, version 1.000.020, is primarily focused on performance and bug fixes, not new content. While large, it's considered a minor update. Substantial additions, including new monsters and missions, will arrive via post-launch DLC. Three paid DLC packs are planned, alongside two free content updates: the first, featuring Mizutsune and event quests, in spring; and a second, with further additions, in summer.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches on PC and consoles February 28th.
