Dr. Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels 'Deadrop'

Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its upcoming first-person shooter (FPS) game, Deadrop.

In an X post, the studio stated, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The announcement included a plea for employment opportunities for its team members.

The studio, comprised of industry veterans from titles such as Call of Duty and Halo, including Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhoy, aimed to launch Deadrop, a free-to-play extraction shooter, in 2024. However, the game failed to meet its release target.

Following Dr. Disrespect's departure from Midnight Society in 2024 due to allegations of inappropriate online interactions with a minor, development continued on Deadrop until its ultimate cancellation this year.

Deadrop was envisioned within a retro-futuristic 80s-inspired setting, featuring characters sporting Daft Punk-esque helmets and engaging in PvPvE combat.

This closure adds to the growing list of game studios facing challenges in the current industry climate, joining companies such as Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs that have also experienced layoffs or closures.
