Simu Liu, the star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is reportedly working to resurrect the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reports Liu responded to a fan on X/Twitter, stating he's actively engaging with rights holders to bring the video game to the big screen.

The Sleeping Dogs film adaptation, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, was quietly shelved a year later. Yen recently confirmed the project's cancellation, citing years of work and investment, ultimately lost to the unpredictable nature of Hollywood. His statement seemingly dashed hopes for a cinematic adaptation of the critically acclaimed video game.

However, Liu's recent social media interaction reignited interest. The success of his efforts remains uncertain, but his involvement offers a renewed chance for the Hong Kong-set action franchise.

The original Sleeping Dogs, released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows undercover detective Wei Shen as he infiltrates a Hong Kong Triad. The game received widespread critical acclaim, including an 8/10 rating from IGN, yet never spawned a sequel.
