Marvel Snap Returns: Developers Seek New Publisher

May 29,25

On January 19, TikTok faced a temporary shutdown in the U.S., impacting several associated projects, including Marvel Snap—a popular card game developed by Second Dinner Studios and published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance. The game went offline for approximately 24 hours before returning, albeit partially. In-game purchases remain disabled, and ongoing efforts aim to fully restore functionality.

In response to this disruption, the development team is considering changes to their publishing strategy and exploring ways to migrate certain services internally. An official announcement on Platform X cited political risks as the primary concern, as TikTok has been granted only a 90-day window to secure a local owner for 50% of its business. Failure to meet this requirement could lead to further restrictions on both TikTok and Marvel Snap.

Despite these challenges, Second Dinner Studios assured fans that the game remains a priority, stating, “Marvel Snap is here to stay.” Developers are actively addressing ongoing issues, including authorization problems reported by players. Interestingly, PC users could still access the game via Steam during the outage.

The lack of prior notice left many players unprepared, leading to frustration over unexpected in-game expenditures. As the situation evolves, Second Dinner Studios continues to gather feedback and work towards a stable resolution. Additional updates are expected soon.
