Marvel Rival Mods Target Politicians
Marvel Rivals' Nexus Mods controversy escalates after over 500 modifications were submitted in a single month. The removal of mods replacing Captain America's head with images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump ignited a firestorm of user reaction.
Nexus Mods owner, TheDarkOne, clarified the removals in a private Reddit discussion, stating both mods were deleted simultaneously to prevent accusations of partisanship. TheDarkOne noted, "We removed the Biden mod on the same day as the Trump mod to avoid bias. But for some reason YouTube bloggers are silent about it."
However, the situation worsened. TheDarkOne reported receiving threats following the removals. "Today we're receiving death threats, being called pedophiles, and subjected to all sorts of insults simply because someone chose to escalate this issue," TheDarkOne added.
This isn't the first time Nexus Mods' moderation policies have sparked debate. A 2022 incident involved the removal of a Spider-Man Remastered mod that replaced rainbow flags with American flags. The site's owners publicly defended their decision, emphasizing their commitment to inclusivity and their rejection of content opposing diversity.
TheDarkOne concluded, "We're not going to waste our time on people who think this is cause for uproar."
