Mario Kart 9 Character Redesign Inspired by Super Mario Bros. Movie

Nintendo has officially unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2, and alongside it, the much-anticipated Mario Kart 9. Fans have been quick to notice a significant redesign of one character in particular, seemingly influenced by the design seen in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The trailer showcased over a dozen characters, and while most appeared as fans would expect, Donkey Kong's new look caught everyone's attention. Historically, Donkey Kong's design has remained consistent across games like Mario Kart 8, Mario Tennis, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. However, the blockbuster success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie introduced a fresh look for the character, which Nintendo now seems to be integrating into its latest games.

Only a fleeting glimpse of Mario Kart 9 was shown, with Donkey Kong making brief appearances. The redesign is already notably different, though a comprehensive comparison will have to wait until more details emerge. Fans can look forward to a more in-depth reveal during the Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Direct in April.

The console reveal trailer provided tantalizing hints about the Nintendo Switch 2, emphasizing its design. Key features confirmed include mostly backwards compatibility, a new mysterious button on the Joy-Cons, and the ability to use the controller as a mouse, validating a popular fan theory.

While the release is slated for 2025, it's speculated that the Nintendo Switch 2 won't hit the market until at least June, due to planned hands-on events worldwide. Registration for these events will open soon, building anticipation for what's to come.
