Mahershala Ali's Blade Movie Project Likely Cancelled

The much-anticipated Blade movie appears to have hit a dead end, leaving fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe disappointed. The project, which promised to feature Mahershala Ali as the iconic Daywalker, has faced numerous obstacles, and now it seems the film may never see the light of day.

Rapper and artist Flying Lotus recently shared on X / Twitter his involvement in the project, revealing that he was set to compose the music for Blade before the project fell through. "I guess we are so far from it even being a possibility now but. Yeah I was signed on to write music for the new BLADE movie before it fell thru," he stated, expressing his doubts about its revival but noting it would have been an exciting opportunity.

Adding to the series of disheartening updates, costume designer Ruth E. Carter, during an appearance on The John Campea Show, confirmed her role in designing costumes for Blade, which was supposed to be set in the 1920s. This setting would have offered a unique and visually stunning backdrop for the film.

Actor Delroy Lindo, who was also attached to the project alongside Ali, shared his disappointment with Entertainment Weekly. "When Marvel came to me, they seemed to be really interested in my input," he said, describing the initial excitement and collaborative spirit before the project derailed.

Blade was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, with a planned release this November if all had gone smoothly. However, the film has seen multiple directors come and go, including Yann Demange and Bassam Tariq, without any sticking to the project.

Despite being removed from Marvel's release schedule in October 2024, and with no new release date announced, MCU boss Kevin Feige remains optimistic. In an interview with Omelete in November 2024, he affirmed, "We are committed to Blade. We love the character, we love Mahershala's take on him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still figuring out how it fits into our schedule, we let the audience know. You're all up to date on what's happening. But I can tell you that the character will indeed make it to the MCU."
