Mackenyu Arata of One Piece Fame Joins Assassin’s Creed Shadows Cast

Mackenyu Arata, the Japanese actor famous for his portrayal of Roronoa Zoro in Netflix's One Piece adaptation, joins the cast of Assassin’s Creed Shadows – Ubisoft's upcoming entry in their flagship RPG franchise.

The actor will voice Gennojo in both Japanese and English versions of the feudal Japan-set game. Ubisoft describes Gennojo as a crucial character who "aids the protagonist in locating and eliminating high-value targets."

"Gennojo is a charismatic yet reckless antihero, torn by guilt and determined to dismantle corruption. This silver-tongued trickster blends wit, deception, and bravado," Ubisoft revealed. "Beneath his roguish exterior burns a fierce sense of justice, particularly toward protecting society's vulnerable. He'll stop at nothing to bring down a rotten system, even at personal risk."

While Gennojo's exact introduction point remains undisclosed, he's confirmed as a significant story element. Mackenyu notes the character belongs to a shadowy collective called the "Shinobi League," suggesting players can recruit him as a companion during their journey through feudal Japan.
