Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Units Sold, Proving a Resurgence for the Classic Action Title

Released late last year, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has reportedly achieved significant sales success, exceeding 200,000 units sold. Despite initial technical challenges and some controversy, the game's popularity is undeniable, demonstrating strong player demand.

Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for the No More Heroes series), Lollipop Chainsaw is a vibrant action-hack-and-slash game featuring a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling zombies. While the original developers didn't helm the remaster, Dragami Games delivered a visually enhanced version with improved gameplay features.

Months after its September 2024 launch across current and last-gen consoles, and PC, Dragami Games announced the impressive sales milestone via a tweet.

Celebrating Success: Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Sales Triumph

The game casts players as Juliet Starling, a San Romero High cheerleader who uncovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is overrun. Juliet's chainsaw combat is reminiscent of titles like Bayonetta, offering thrilling third-person action against hordes of zombies and unique bosses.

The original 2012 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 achieved even greater success, reportedly selling over one million copies. This initial popularity was likely fueled by the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda (renowned game designer) and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy director), who contributed to the game's compelling narrative.

While future plans, such as additional content or a sequel, remain unannounced, the success of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP bodes well for remasters of other cult classic games. This positive trend is further underscored by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, another Grasshopper Manufacture title brought to modern platforms.
