The much-anticipated Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has finally secured its writing duo, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, known for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Announced today, Daley and Goldstein are set to pen the screenplay for the film, which is based on Hasbro's iconic board game. This exciting project will also be produced by Margot Robbie under her production company, LuckyChap.

Daley and Goldstein have been on a roll, having recently written and directed their original film, Mayday, in addition to their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Their portfolio also includes writing credits for The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, showcasing their versatility and talent in the industry.

The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been a long one, with discussions dating back to 2007 when Ridley Scott showed interest in directing the film. In 2011, Scott enlisted Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write the script, but that version never materialized. Subsequent attempts in 2015 saw Lionsgate and Hasbro collaborating on a script by Andrew Niccol, followed by reports in 2019 of Kevin Hart and director Tim Story's involvement. However, none of these efforts came to fruition.

The recent acquisition of eOne by Lionsgate from Hasbro has reignited efforts to bring this project to life. With Daley and Goldstein at the helm of the screenplay, and Margot Robbie's involvement as a producer, there's renewed hope that this version of the Monopoly film will successfully "pass Go" and deliver an engaging cinematic experience to audiences worldwide.
