League of Legends Hextech Chest Brought Back After Fan Feedback

League of Legends is bringing back Hextech Chests, responding directly to player feedback. Read on to learn about this update and other changes coming to LoL.

League of Legends Reverses Course on Unpopular Changes

The Return of Hextech Chests

Following player feedback, Hextech Chests are making a comeback to League of Legends. In a developer update published February 27, 2025, and accompanied by a YouTube video, Riot Games outlined upcoming changes. Riot acknowledged that recent updates missed the mark for many players, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."

The return of Hextech Chests was a key community request. Riot explained, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark." Starting in patch 25.05, players can earn up to 10 chests and keys per act: 8 from the free pass and 2 through the Honor system.

Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed, Further Fan Feedback Addressed

The release of the Exalted Mordekaiser skin, along with the entire Exalted skin line, has been delayed. Riot aims to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This also means the planned release of an Exalted skin every Act this year will not happen.

Responding to further player feedback, LoL will replace a non-Prestige skin with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about a shortage of Mythic Essence in the paid pass and the number of champions per seasonal theme.

To improve champion accessibility, the Blue Essence cost for all champions will be reduced by 50% in patch 25.05.

Finally, Clash's monthly schedule is being reinstated, following previous plans to reduce its frequency. March will feature an ARURF Clash event, followed by a regular SR Clash in April.

Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Return

Popular features, Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium, are also returning. Your Shop is scheduled for patch 25.06 and the Emporium for 25.07.

Riot Games concluded by stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments." This demonstrates Riot's commitment to incorporating player feedback to improve the game. League of Legends remains free-to-play on PC. Visit our League of Legends page for the latest news.
