Warhorse Studios' developers are tired of the recent online backlash against Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and simply want to focus on creating an engaging video game. In a February 3, 2025, interview with PC Gamer, KCD2's PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling shared his thoughts on the criticism the game has received due to its increased diversity.

Stolz-Zwilling stated, "Several years ago, we were criticized for one thing, and now it's another. It feels like we're constantly being labeled, yet our goal remains to create a compelling video game." This statement follows criticism from fans and critics regarding the inclusion of LGBTQ+ content and other elements deemed "woke."

Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the team is not the source of the problem. "We believe the extreme voices are never satisfied," he remarked.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Diversity

Set in Kuttenberg, KCD2 features a more diverse setting compared to its predecessor. Bittner explained, "Kuttenberg hosts more ethnicities because it's the royal mint." As the financial hub of Bohemia, Kuttenberg attracts people from various parts of the world, contributing to its diversity.

Bittner highlighted several cultural and ethnic elements in the game, including people from Italy, German speakers, and a Jewish quarter. He emphasized the importance of not just including these groups but also reflecting their worldview, which he believes is often missing in media claiming to be diverse.

Stolz-Zwilling clarified that neither their publisher Plaion nor Embracer mandated any specific agendas for KCD2. Community feedback alone influenced their approach. "Everything we've included has been meticulously researched and verified," he assured.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Pre-Orders Unaffected By Recent Backlash

Warhorse Studios has addressed rumors about players seeking refunds for pre-ordering KCD2 amidst the backlash. KCD2 Writer Daniel Vávra clarified on a Twitter (X) post that the game's sales-return ratio remains unchanged despite the controversy. He noted that KCD2's lower position on Steam charts was due to discounts on nine other popular games, which also affected pre-order sales of Monster Hunter: Wilds.

In January 2025, Vávra faced criticism for including queer representation in KCD2, leading to rumors that the game was banned in Saudi Arabia due to unskippable LGBT+ scenes.
