Keanu Reeves' Constantine 2 Pitched to DC Studios, Script Greenlit

Feb 25,25

Keanu Reeves offers the most encouraging update yet on Constantine 2, confirming a script is now in the works.

John Constantine, the occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was memorably portrayed by Reeves in the 2005 film adaptation, which achieved cult classic status. For two decades, fans have clamored for a sequel, a desire Reeves has openly shared.

Now, Constantine 2 appears closer to reality following Reeves' confirmation of a successful pitch meeting at DC Studios.

"We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’” Reeves revealed to Inverse. “So, we're going to try and write a script.”

While promising, it's crucial to remember that DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran haven't officially greenlit Constantine 2. The project remains unconfirmed within the rebooted DCU and hasn't been publicly acknowledged by Gunn or Safran. Its future remains uncertain.

However, Reeves hinted that, if produced, Constantine 2 will remain consistent with the original film's universe. "We're not going off that," he assured, adding playfully, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."

Reeves' comments follow producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura's September statement that a Constantine 2 script existed, though he admitted to delaying reading it due to high expectations.

Speaking to ComicBook, di Bonaventura stated the script was in his inbox, confessing, "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
