Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Role in Supergirl Film: 'We Look Spot On'

Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to make a thrilling transition to the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) with his portrayal of Lobo in the upcoming 2026 film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an alien mercenary and bounty hunter with superhuman strength and immortality, is the last survivor of the planet Czarnia, much like Superman. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, the character first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.

Momoa, who has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, has shared his excitement and slight nervousness about taking on this role. In an interview with ScreenRant, he hinted at the character's appearance in the film, suggesting that while fans will get a good look at Lobo, it will be a brief one. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa said. "That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool." When asked about his screen time, he confirmed that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is primarily Supergirl's story, with Lobo making a short appearance.

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

The film also stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, with James Gunn sharing the first photo of her in the role back in January. The movie draws heavily from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. This standalone story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, portrayed by Eve Ridley, who enlists Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts. Other cast members include David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated for release in June 2026 and will be the second film in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman this summer. The DCU will continue to expand with a Clayface movie set for September 2026.
