Thailand may be a world away from the magical realm of Hogwarts, but that hasn't stopped Jason Isaacs, star of The White Lotus Season 3, from sharing his intriguing casting suggestion for the role of Lucius Malfoy in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series. In a recent interview with Variety, Isaacs, who also lends his voice to the Marvel series What If…?, proposed none other than the legendary Meryl Streep for the part.

"She can do anything, that woman. There’s literally no limit to what she can do," Isaacs enthused about Streep. The acclaimed actress has previously showcased her versatility by portraying a man in the HBO miniseries adaptation of the epic play Angels in America, where she played an elderly male rabbi among other characters. Given her track record, Isaacs believes Streep could seamlessly step into the shoes of the cunning Lucius Malfoy.

Despite his strong endorsement of Streep, Isaacs humorously declined to offer any advice to whoever ultimately takes on the role of Lucius Malfoy. "I wouldn’t have any advice at all. Why would I bother?" he remarked. He expressed confidence in the casting decisions being made, mentioning that he knows some of the actors already chosen and believes they will make the series a success. "It’s going to be fantastic, and the last thing they need is advice from some old fart like me," he added.

Isaacs himself first portrayed Lucius Malfoy in the second Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and continued to bring the character to life through to the series' conclusion in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. As for the new adaptation, only one casting has been confirmed at the time of writing: John Lithgow will take on the role of Albus Dumbledore, previously portrayed by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.

Rumors suggest that Black Mirror star Paapa Essiedu is close to being cast as Severus Snape, originally played by Alan Rickman, while Jessica Jones star Janet McTeer is reportedly in discussions to portray Minerva McGonagall, a role that Maggie Smith made iconic. However, these casting choices remain unconfirmed.
