May 06,25

In a recent video titled "A Bad Month," popular YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, shared his disappointment over the cancellation of a Soma animated show he had been working on for a year. Soma, a critically acclaimed survival horror sci-fi game developed by Frictional Games, was released in 2015 and is one of Jacksepticeye's favorite games. He had been in discussions with the developers for a year, aiming to bring the game's compelling story to an animated format.

Jacksepticeye expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting his deep connection to the game and its narrative. He planned to dedicate significant time to the show, intending to reduce his usual content uploads to focus on this creative endeavor. However, the project fell apart abruptly when an unnamed party decided to take the project in a "different direction," leaving Jacksepticeye "quite upset" and without specifics to share due to his emotional response to the situation.

The cancellation of the Soma animated show has significantly disrupted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025, leaving him uncertain about his priorities and future projects. He lamented the frustration of dedicating time and effort to something that ultimately did not come to fruition.

Following the release of Soma, Frictional Games continued to develop the Amnesia series, releasing Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In a statement from July 2023, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip mentioned the company's intention to shift focus from horror to explore other emotional qualities in their games, aiming to provide players with immersive experiences beyond just horror elements.
