MultiVersus Season 5: A Last Stand?

Industry insider AusilMV, known for accurate game leaks, suggests that Season 5 of MultiVersus could be its final season if it fails to perform well. A trusted source reportedly informed AusilMV that the season represents a last-ditch attempt to revive the game's flagging popularity. While currently just a rumor, the situation is undeniably concerning.

The game's initial launch in 2022 saw explosive success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent Steam players. However, a dramatic 99% player drop followed shortly after, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, controversially labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a relaunch with updates in May 2024, MultiVersus has struggled to recapture its initial momentum.

Season 5, launching in early February, is therefore seen as a critical juncture, potentially the developers' last opportunity to reignite player interest. The game's 2022 release, now retrospectively classified as a "beta," was initially well-received. However, the subsequent March 2023 announcement of a temporary June shutdown angered many players, particularly those who had purchased the premium edition. The success or failure of Season 5 will likely determine the game's ultimate fate.
