Harrison Ford: AI Not Needed to Capture My Soul, Says 'Indiana Jones and the Great Circle' Star

Jun 25,25

Harrison Ford, the iconic actor behind Indiana Jones, recently shared his thoughts on Troy Baker's portrayal of the legendary adventurer in the video game *Indiana Jones and the Great Circle*. Ford praised Baker’s performance, stating it proves that "you don't need artificial intelligence to steal my soul."

In a conversation with *The Wall Street Journal Magazine*, Ford expressed confidence in passing the torch to Baker, best known for his role in *The Last of Us*. He emphasized that talent and creativity remain irreplaceable, even in an era increasingly influenced by AI. “You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul,” Ford remarked. “You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent. He did a brilliant job, and it didn’t take AI to do it.”

A New Direction for Indiana Jones?

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, released in December, has been described as an “authentic” experience within the franchise, though its canonical status remains ambiguous. This comes shortly after the release of *Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny* in 2023—the latest film installment which unfortunately failed to impress critics and fans alike.

Given the lukewarm reception of the film and the positive response to the game, there may be a shift in how future Indiana Jones stories are told. The success of *The Great Circle* suggests that interactive media could become a compelling avenue for continuing the franchise.

AI Concerns Across the Industry

Ford is not alone in expressing concerns about the use of artificial intelligence in creative industries. Other prominent figures like Tim Burton have criticized AI-generated art, calling it “very disturbing,” while Nicolas Cage labeled it a “dead end.”

Voice actors, too, have voiced their opposition. Notably, *Grand Theft Auto V* actor Ned Luke publicly condemned a chatbot that used his voice without permission. Similarly, Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt of Rivia in *The Witcher*, acknowledged AI’s inevitability but warned of its dangers, agreeing with Luke that such practices amount to effectively robbing voice actors of income and creative control.
