Production Continues, Not Cancelled

God of War TV Series OverhaulRecent reports confirm that showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have left the God of War adaptation. Despite reportedly completing multiple scripts, Sony and Amazon have opted for a different creative vision.

However, the project is not cancelled. Cory Barlog (Santa Monica Studio's Creative Director), Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan (PlayStation Productions), Roy Lee (Vertigo), and Yumi Yang (Santa Monica Studio) remain as executive producers. The Road Ahead: Adaptations and Delays

God of War TV Series OverhaulInitially announced on a PlayStation podcast in 2022, following the success of the 2018 God of War reboot, the Amazon and Sony collaboration reflects Sony's broader strategy to adapt its popular video game franchises. This initiative, launched with the creation of PlayStation Productions in 2019, has already yielded several successful projects.

These include the 2022 Uncharted film, the highly acclaimed 2023 The Last of Us series (with a second season slated for 2025), the 2023 Gran Turismo film, and this year's Twisted Metal series. Furthermore, projects currently in development include Gravity Rush, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, and the Until Dawn film, set for release on April 25, 2025. A Horizon Zero Dawn adaptation with Netflix is also underway.
