New Nintendo filings ignite fan excitement over a potential GameCube controller for playing classics on Nintendo Switch Online with Switch 2.

Nintendo Life reports an FCC filing for a Nintendo "game controller" aligned with Switch 2, likely a wireless Bluetooth device.

Famiboards users analyzed the filing, noting an image showing a label placement matching the GameCube controller’s C-Stick area.

Though it might be a Switch 2 Pro Controller, speculation leans toward its use with Nintendo Switch Online’s retro game service.

Fans are now hopeful for a GameCube game library on Nintendo Switch Online. Despite demand, Nintendo has focused on NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy titles. Could Switch 2 bring a GameCube revival?

Switch 2, unveiled in January, featured a trailer highlighting backwards compatibility and a second USB-C port. Details like games and the new Joy-Con button’s function remain undisclosed, though the Joy-Con mouse theory has gained attention.

A recent Nintendo patent hints Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers may attach upside down, using gyro mechanics like phones without screen lock. Unlike the original Switch’s rails, magnets allow flexible attachment.

This won’t alter hardware significantly but lets players customize button and headphone port placement. If implemented, this flexibility could enable unique gameplay mechanics.

Much about Switch 2 remains unknown, but Nintendo’s April 2 Direct will share more details.

For now, Metroid Prime Remastered delivers GameCube nostalgia on Nintendo Switch.
