Forza Horizon 4: Retirement Inevitable on December 15th

Jan 22,24

Forza Horizon 4's digital sunset is approaching. Microsoft has announced the game will be removed from major digital stores, including the Microsoft Store, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass, on December 15, 2024. This means no new purchases of the game or its DLC will be possible after that date. The popular open-world racer, set in a fictionalized UK, launched in 2018 and boasts over 24 million players (as of November 2020).

While Playground Games previously stated no delisting plans, expiring licenses necessitate this decision. The announcement, posted on Forza.net, confirms the removal. Note that DLC sales cease on June 25th, leaving only standard, deluxe, and ultimate editions available until the December deadline.

The final in-game series, Series 77, runs from July 25th to August 22nd. Post-Series 77, the playlist screen will be unavailable, but daily/weekly challenges and Forzathon Live events will remain accessible via the Forza Events screen. Existing owners can continue playing. Game Pass subscribers who own DLC will receive a game token to maintain access.

This delisting, while unfortunate for fans, mirrors the fate of other racing games due to expiring music and car licenses. Forza Horizon 3 faced a similar fate. However, current deals offer an 80% Steam discount and an upcoming Xbox Store sale on August 14th for those wishing to secure a copy before the game's digital retirement.
