Fans are smashing Civilization 7 on Steam: The game is being heavily criticized

Civilization VII's rocky launch has left many Firaxis fans disappointed. Steam reviews are overwhelmingly negative, citing a subpar user interface, outdated graphics, and a general feeling of incompleteness.

At the time of writing, over 1,000 reviews have yielded a dismal 37% positive rating.

One player, Cool CGI Dog, after just 1.5 hours of gameplay, described the game as "blatantly incomplete," pointing to "resource icons from 1998," a "terrible" interface, and an overall lack of polish. They felt the $70 price tag was unjustified and expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the game's current state.

Another user, WillNever, echoed these sentiments after 2.5 hours, stating the interface felt like an alpha build. While acknowledging intriguing new mechanics, they deemed the poor interface a major obstacle, requiring extensive work to become enjoyable.

The prevalent opinion among reviewers is that Civilization VII was released prematurely and needs substantial improvement. The $70 price point is a particular point of contention, considered disproportionate to the game's current quality.

Series fans remain hopeful that Firaxis will address the criticism through updates, restoring the franchise's reputation for quality and attention to detail. The expectation is that Civilization VII will eventually live up to its potential, but its current iteration falls far short.
