Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Review Score

When Square Enix launched the monster-collecting RPG Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince on Switch last year, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. While the game had technical limitations, its charm and compelling gameplay loop placed it above other Dragon Quest spinoffs - elevating it to the same caliber as the excellent Dragon Quest Builders 2. Though I anticipated a PC port similar to Dragon Quest Treasures, I hadn't considered a mobile release anytime soon.

Today Square Enix announced the Switch-exclusive Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince ($29.99 mobile/$39.99 PC) will arrive on iOS, Android, and Steam on September 11th, including all previous DLC content from the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince platform comparison

Store listings confirm the Steam and mobile versions won't include the Switch version's Online Battles network mode for real-time PvP.

Currently available on Nintendo Switch ($59.99 standard/$84.99 Digital Deluxe), I'm excited to revisit this title for review on iPhone, iPad, and Steam Deck when it launches September 11th. Square Enix continues delivering Dragon Quest content to mobile faster than expected - I'd predicted a 2027 mobile release based on previous franchise timelines like Dragon Quest Builders.

Pre-registration is now available:
