Dragon Age Writer Exits BioWare

Corinne Busche, director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA subsidiary.

Eurogamer reports Busche's departure, effective in the coming weeks, following her tenure as game director from February 2022 to the game's October 2024 launch. EA has yet to comment.

While Dragon Age: The Veilguard's commercial success remains unconfirmed by EA (Q3 2025 financial results are due February 4th), Eurogamer states Busche's exit is unrelated to its performance. No DLC is planned for The Veilguard.

Busche joined BioWare in 2019 from Maxis, contributing to various Sims projects. Her directorship was crucial in navigating The Veilguard's final development stages, a journey detailed in IGN's article, "How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade," which highlighted a significant development reset from a multiplayer concept to a single-player RPG.

BioWare's recent history includes approximately 50 layoffs in August 2023, impacting veteran staff like narrative designer Mary Kirby. These layoffs coincided with internal restructuring at EA and the shift of Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher, ostensibly to allow BioWare to focus on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The initial reveal trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard (formerly Dreadwolf) received negative feedback, prompting a rapid release of gameplay footage. Despite initial concerns, later impressions proved generally positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain, leaving fans questioning whether BioWare will be given the opportunity to develop a sequel. Currently, BioWare's focus is on Mass Effect 5.
