Disney Lorcana's Ninth Set, Fabled, Launches September 2025 with Goofy Movie and Iconic, Epic Cards
Disney Lorcana has officially unveiled a wave of exciting updates and reveals that are set to shape the future of the beloved trading card game. Among the highlights is the announcement of Fabled, the ninth set, which is scheduled for release on September 5, 2025. This set will introduce the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards, as well as the highly anticipated arrival of characters from A Goofy Movie. But that’s not all—details were also shared about the upcoming eighth set Reign of Jafar, a new Collection Starter Set, and the Disney Lorcana World Championship. And yes, there was even a tease involving Darkwing Duck.
Here's everything you need to know about what’s coming next in Disney Lorcana.
Fabled Brings Iconic & Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Competitive Play
While we’re still waiting for full details about the Fabled set, the teasers released by the Disney Lorcana team have only increased the excitement leading up to its pre-release on August 29 and official launch on September 5.
One of the most significant additions with Fabled is the inclusion of A Goofy Movie characters. While the specific characters weren’t revealed yet, this expansion promises fresh content and nostalgic nods for fans of the film.
The introduction of Iconic Cards marks a major milestone in the game. These will be the rarest cards moving forward, with only two appearing per set. Mickey and Minnie will debut as the very first Iconic Cards, beautifully illustrated riding a carousel—sure to be a coveted collectible for players and collectors alike.
Alongside them come Epic Cards, which fall between Legendary and Enchanted in rarity. These cards will feature exclusive artwork and foil treatments, offering more opportunities to obtain standout cards like the new Elsa (Snow Queen).
Another key change introduced with Fabled is the beginning of a rotational format for competitive play. The top-tier format, known as Core Constructed, will no longer allow cards from the first four sets, ushering in a fresh era of strategy and deck-building.
However, older cards aren’t disappearing entirely. They’ll still be playable in the new Infinity Constructed format. Additionally, select fan-favorite cards such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard) will be reprinted in Fabled and will be legal in competitive formats.
Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of the Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger, explained the reasoning behind the rotation:
"To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter. But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled—including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!"
New Collection Starter Set for New Players
For those just stepping into the world of Disney Lorcana, the newly announced Collection Starter Set offers an ideal entry point. This set includes:
- Four Fabled booster packs
- A Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card
- A card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor)
- A collector’s guide
This starter pack gives newcomers a strong foundation while offering valuable collectibles and gameplay assets.
Reign of Jafar – Aladdin, Bambi, and a New Co-Op Experience
Lorcana’s eighth set, Reign of Jafar, is set to arrive earlier than Fabled, with a pre-release on May 30 and wide release on June 6.
This set continues the narrative arc centered around Jafar, who now wields the powerful Hexwell Crown and has corrupted Archazia’s Island. The official description teases:
"Traps and illusions abound in Reign of Jafar, and glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber will need to band together to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier."
New Cards and Sets
Players can look forward to collecting cards featuring:
- Bambi (Prince of the Forest)
- Flower (Shy Skunk)
- Thumper (Young Bunny)
- Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana)
- Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug)
- Aladdin (Vigilant Guard)
- And many more iconic Disney characters
Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist – A New Co-Op Adventure
In addition to the main set, Reign of Jafar introduces Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a brand-new co-op experience-in-a-box designed for four players. In this adventure, players team up to take on Jafar and his minions in a strategic, story-driven challenge.
Teasing What’s Next – Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck
The presentation concluded with a sneak peek into future sets. The one following Fabled is titled Whispers in the Well, scheduled for release in Q4 2025. Though few details were given, concept art features Mickey, Ariel, and hints at the potential inclusion of Disney Gargoyles in Lorcana, along with a new type of Glimmer.
Looking further ahead, fans finally got confirmation that Darkwing Duck will make his way into Disney Lorcana in 2026—fulfilling long-time requests from the community.
Disney Lorcana World Championship – June 2025
The competitive side of Disney Lorcana is gaining momentum with the announcement of the Disney Lorcana World Championship, taking place June 28–29 at Walt Disney World.
This prestigious event will bring together top players from around the globe to compete for the title of the first annual Disney Lorcana TCG World Champion.
