Digimon Con to Reveal New Project: Digital TCG on the Horizon?

Apr 19,25

For fans of the long-running franchise Digimon, the upcoming Digimon Con 2025 is set to be a landmark event. Attendees can anticipate a variety of exciting announcements and updates about upcoming projects within the franchise. However, it's one particular teaser that has captured our attention: an image featuring a confused Renamon alongside a mobile phone.

The teaser strongly suggests the possibility of a new digital version of the Digimon Trading Card Game (TCG). While there's already a tutorial app available for iOS and Android, as is common with many of Bandai Namco's physical trading card games, the timing of this announcement hints at something more significant. With the recent launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket, the idea of a Digimon TCG mobile counterpart doesn't seem far-fetched.

However, it's important to temper our excitement slightly. The teaser doesn't explicitly confirm whether the mobile aspect relates to the platform for the new project or merely an avenue for streaming the upcoming livestream later this week.

Going digital

It's no secret that Digimon, while cherished by its fans, is often overshadowed by Pokémon. In the late '90s and 2000s, there was a notable rivalry between the two, but Pokémon has since dominated the global pop culture scene. For Digimon, venturing into a digital TCG space might not guarantee an easy victory, yet it's not a risky move either. The Digimon TCG still enjoys a dedicated following, and making it more accessible could significantly expand its player base. We'll have to tune into the Digimon Con livestream later this month to learn more.
