Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 Devs Won’t Say Whether They’ll Ban Elon Musk for Account Boosting
Elon Musk's alleged cheating in Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 has sparked controversy, with fans questioning the integrity of the games and the developers' response. Screenshots of a private conversation revealed Musk's admission to paying for account boosting, a violation of both games' terms of service.
Account boosting, where a player pays another to level up their account, is a clear breach of Blizzard Entertainment's (Diablo 4) and Grinding Gear Games' (Path of Exile 2) rules. Despite this, both companies have refused to comment on whether they will ban Musk's accounts.
This silence has fueled outrage among players. Forum posts express disappointment at the perceived lack of enforcement, particularly given Musk's public admission. Concerns are raised about the fairness of the game and the impact on the credibility of real money trading (RMT) enforcement.
Musk, known for his boasts about his gaming skill, previously claimed a top 20 global ranking in Diablo 4 and possessed a high-level Path of Exile 2 character (now deceased). However, his gameplay has been criticized for lacking fundamental understanding of game mechanics, leading to speculation about account boosting.
A video surfaced showing a direct message exchange where Musk admits to account boosting, justifying it as necessary to compete with Asian players. He clarified that while his streamed gameplay is genuine, his high-level character achievements were not solely his own. Musk's ex-partner, Grimes, offered a defense, claiming to have witnessed his gaming skill firsthand.
Further allegations emerged when Musk's Path of Exile 2 character showed activity while he was in Washington D.C. for Trump's inauguration, raising further questions about the extent of his alleged cheating. The lack of response from Blizzard and Grinding Gear Games continues to fuel debate about fairness and the enforcement of game rules for high-profile players.
