Dead Rising Remaster Announced

Capcom has unveiled a remastered edition of the original Dead Rising game, marking a return for the franchise after a lengthy hiatus. The last mainline Dead Rising title launched in 2016, and following mixed reception for Dead Rising 4, the series went dormant. While the original Dead Rising debuted exclusively on Xbox 360 in 2006, an enhanced version later appeared on multiple platforms in anticipation of Dead Rising 4. Since then, Capcom has focused heavily on its Resident Evil franchise, releasing numerous acclaimed remakes and new installments. This renewed attention to Resident Evil likely overshadowed Dead Rising for several years.

Now, eight years later, Capcom has announced "Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster," a current-generation remaster of the first game. A brief YouTube trailer showcased the game's opening sequence. While release platforms and date remain unannounced, a late 2024 launch is anticipated.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster: A Fresh Look at a Classic

Despite a 2016 enhancement for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, this remaster promises improved performance and visuals. This announcement sparks speculation about potential remasters of subsequent Dead Rising titles. However, given Capcom's apparent focus on remastering rather than creating full-scale remakes – similar to its successful Resident Evil approach – a complete overhaul of the series seems unlikely. Capcom likely prioritizes the proven success of its Resident Evil remakes, and simultaneously remaking two zombie franchises might be considered too ambitious. The possibility of a Dead Rising 5 remains open, though.

2024 has already seen a wave of popular remasters and remakes, including Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and others. Should Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster launch this year, it would join other Xbox 360-era remasters such as Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP.
