Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Unavailable for PS Plus Game Redemptions
During Sony's recent State of Play showcase, the announcement of Days Gone Remastered caught the attention of many, but it has left some PlayStation Plus subscribers feeling frustrated due to its $10 upgrade policy. Sony has clarified that the $10 upgrade to the remastered version on PlayStation 5 is exclusively available to those who own the PlayStation 4 disc or a digital copy of Days Gone. Unfortunately, this means that players who obtained the game through the PS Plus subscription service, including those who redeemed it from the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or as an Essential monthly game in April 2021, are not eligible for the discounted upgrade. Instead, they must pay the full $49.99 to access the PS5 remastered version.
This decision has sparked a wave of discontent among PS Plus subscribers, many of whom have taken to online forums to voice their dissatisfaction. A notable thread on the PlayStation Plus subreddit is filled with comments from subscribers who express their willingness to pay the $10 upgrade fee but are now opting to forego the game entirely due to the full price requirement. Users like squarejellyfish_ have pointed out that Sony could have potentially earned more revenue by allowing PS Plus players to upgrade for $10, as many would have been willing to pay that amount to try out the remastered version for a short period.
Comments from subscribers such as teckn9ne79 and dredizzle99 further illustrate the sentiment, with teckn9ne79 stating they would only pay the $10 upgrade fee and not the full price, while dredizzle99 called the decision "pretty stupid" and noted that they, along with many others, would have paid for the upgrade to at least try the game. Jackanyon95 criticized Sony's approach, suggesting that allowing the upgrade would have generated additional revenue from copies that were initially given away for free.
Despite the backlash, some PS Plus subscribers understand Sony's financial strategy, acknowledging that the company likely made this decision after careful consideration. However, Sony is still facing criticism from its dedicated fanbase, who are labeling the company as "stingy" for not extending the upgrade offer to all Days Gone owners.
While Days Gone Remastered was a highlight of the State of Play, it was not the only game announced. For a comprehensive overview of all the announcements, check out IGN’s State of Play February 2025 roundup.
