Daredevil fans are in for a treat! A new miniseries, Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell, is launching, reuniting writer Charles Soule and artist Steve McNiven. This series offers a unique take on the Daredevil mythos, reminiscent of The Dark Knight Returns, but with a distinctly Daredevil twist.

The story unfolds in a future where Matt Murdock, older and stripped of his powers, has abandoned his superhero life. Superheroes are largely absent from this futuristic Marvel Universe. Soule explains that Matt's powers, stemming from radioactive exposure, have simply faded with time. He retains his combat skills but is essentially an ordinary man with an extraordinary past.

This "aging hero returns" trope, similar to The Dark Knight Returns and Old Man Logan, allows for a potent exploration of the character, stripping him down to his core essence. Soule highlights the collaborative nature of the project with McNiven, describing their process as a "jazz" collaboration.

The supporting cast and villains will also feature prominently, with Soule promising significant surprises. While set in the future, the story is designed to be accessible to new readers, requiring only basic knowledge of Daredevil's background.

The series also draws inspiration from Soule's previous Daredevil comic run, which influenced the Daredevil: Born Again series on Disney+. Soule confirms that elements beyond Mayor Fisk and Muse are present in the show, reflecting the thematic elements of his comic book work.
