Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Comparison

At the outset of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll face a crucial decision: selecting your character's class. Operator, Machinist, and Extractor each offer unique strengths and weaknesses. This guide breaks down each class, helping you choose the best fit for your playstyle and roleplaying preferences.

Operator

The Operator begins with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skills. Endure is unavailable for leveling. Their special ability lets them trade Stress to reroll their lowest die.

While powerful later, the Operator can struggle early on. The Interface skill is valuable, but the reroll ability isn't always reliable. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator is highly versatile, adaptable to various character concepts.

Machinist

The Machinist starts with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and lacks Endure. Engage is not levelable. Their ability involves spending Stress to add +2 to their lowest die, offset by losing 2 Stress on a successful outcome. This ability improves as the game progresses.

The Machinist proved highly effective in my first playthrough. The ability to mitigate Stress is invaluable, especially considering Stress management is a core game mechanic. The starting skills are also well-suited to frequent Engineer and Interface checks. This class appeals to players focused on the game's technical and mechanical aspects.

Extractor

The Extractor begins with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit is unlevelable. Their ability lets them spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, an ability that enhances crew performance on Contracts.

The Extractor's ability is extremely helpful for mitigating Contract risks. The Endure bonus is also beneficial, given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, I often found myself with crew members already proficient in Endure and Engage. This class is ideal for players who prefer a more physically capable, "bruiser" type character.

This overview should help you select the Citizen Sleeper 2 class that best aligns with your preferred playstyle and character vision.
