May 29,25

LEGO is set to release *The Lord of the Rings: The Shire* on April 2 for LEGO Insiders and April 5 for the general public. As the third set inspired by *The Lord of the Rings* series in the past three years, this build follows the debut of *Rivendell* (6,167 pieces) in 2023 and *Barad-dûr* (5,471 pieces) in 2024.

LEGO The Shire

A Homely Welcome: The Shire

Set #10354 captures Bilbo Baggins’ cozy hobbit-hole, a location central to the story's beginning. This 2,017-piece model features nine minifigures: Bilbo Baggins, Frodo, Mrs. Proudfoot, Farmer Proudfoot, Merry, Pippin, Rosie Cotton, Samwise Gamgee, and Gandalf the Grey. Nestled into a green-bricked hillside, the house opens up to reveal three main areas: the main foyer with its iconic round door, a study to the left, and a combined dining and sitting area to the right.

The modular design allows you to assemble each room independently before connecting them seamlessly. Inside, the charm of hobbit life shines through with intricate details like patterned rugs, scattered letters, and small morsels of food. Highlights include the Mithril Coat, a well-used map, and a sword displayed prominently. Turning a hidden knob reveals a clever mechanism that switches between a charred envelope and the infamous One Ring—a nod to Fellowship of the Ring.

A Natural Fit

The exterior of *The Shire* captures the rolling hills and whimsical architecture of the Shire. Its rounded walls and textured surfaces reflect the natural beauty of Middle-earth. Building the hillside requires precision and patience, offering a satisfying tactile experience akin to shaping the earth itself.

Outside the main structure, additional elements bring the set to life. A Party Tree adorned with colorful lanterns, a red dragon firework, Gandalf’s carriage, and a barrel mechanism that mimics Bilbo’s famous disappearing act add dynamic storytelling opportunities.

Value Proposition

Despite its charm and simplicity, *The Shire* comes with a price tag that feels disproportionate to its piece count. At $270 for 2,017 pieces, it exceeds the typical $10-per-brick benchmark by 34%. By comparison, *Barad-dûr* (5,147 pieces, $460) and *Rivendell* (6,167 pieces, $500) offer better value. Even *Jabba’s Sail Barge* (3,943 pieces, $500), another licensed property, aligns closer to the standard pricing metric.

That said, The Shire remains the most budget-friendly entry point for Lord of the Rings fans who were deterred by the higher prices of its predecessors. While it lacks the technical complexity of larger sets, its affordability and delightful design make it an accessible addition to any collection.

A Classic Addition

For Tolkien enthusiasts and LEGO aficionados alike, *The Shire* is a warm and inviting addition to the LEGO lineup. While its price may raise eyebrows, its charm and nostalgic appeal ensure it will find favor among collectors.
