US Blocks Marvel Snap Due to TikTok Restrictions

Second Dinner, a studio based in California, developed the popular game Marvel Snap, but it is published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance. Due to this association, Marvel Snap faced a ban alongside other apps such as CapCut and Lemon8, leading to its discontinuation on iOS and Android platforms as of January 18, 2025. This unexpected move has left many players frustrated, especially those encountering authorization issues. However, PC users can still access the game through Steam. The developers at Second Dinner were taken aback by this event and have assured fans that they are actively working to bring the game back online. In a statement from Platform X, they emphasized their commitment:

"Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."

A particularly frustrating element of this situation is that players received no prior warning. Many continued to invest in in-game purchases, unaware of the impending lockout. While Marvel Snap was affected, not all ByteDance apps experienced the same fate. For example, Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable.

In other news, Marvel Snap recently introduced Moonstone, an ongoing card that could shake up the game's meta. As part of the Ongoing archetype, Moonstone (4/6) can replicate the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane. Given the current pool of low-cost Ongoing cards, such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which primarily boost power, Moonstone's ability to gain these effects for free makes her a potent addition to the game's strategy.
