Conquer the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds: A Comprehensive Guide

Want to master the hunt and subdue the Chatacabra, either by slaying it or capturing it? This amphibious menace is one of the first challenges in Monster Hunter Wilds, making it a prime target for honing your skills. Let's explore effective strategies for both approaches.

Slaying the Chatacabra

Chatacabra Weakness and Attacks

Weaknesses: Ice, Thunder Resistances: N/A Immunities: Sonic Bomb

The Chatacabra, a large frog-like creature, primarily employs close-range attacks centered around its long tongue. While it can charge if you maintain distance, its relatively small size makes ranged weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade slightly less efficient than others. The multi-hit nature of some attacks works best against larger targets.

Most attacks involve its tongue, making frontal assaults risky. Besides its tongue lash, it slams its front limbs into the ground after a noticeable upward rear. The only significant threat from a distance is a sweeping tongue attack after raising its head.

The optimal strategy is to flank the Chatacabra, dodging or blocking its slam attacks. Exploiting its elemental weaknesses (Ice and Thunder) significantly accelerates the hunt.

Capturing the Chatacabra

Capturing the Chatacabra

Monster capture in Monster Hunter Wilds follows a consistent pattern. The Chatacabra's inability to fly simplifies the process. You'll need Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps, along with two Tranquilizer Bombs. Carrying one of each trap and eight Tranquilizer Bombs is advisable for unforeseen circumstances.

Battle the Chatacabra until its health is critically low, indicated by a skull icon on the mini-map, signaling its retreat. Follow it, set your trap, and lure it inside. Once trapped, deploy two Tranquilizer Bombs to complete the capture.
