Matajuegos has exciting news for gamers: their acclaimed surrealist documentary game, Atuel, is set to launch on PC and Android platforms later this year. Eager fans can already pre-register on the game's newly launched Steam page, with Google Play pre-registration expected to open soon.

This indie gem, originally released on itch.io in September 2022 by the Argentinian cooperative Matajuegos, has captured the gaming community's attention with its innovative mix of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and breathtaking dreamlike visuals. Atuel's unique approach earned it the 'Innovation in Experience Design Award' at IndieCade 2022, along with numerous other accolades. The game has also been featured at prestigious venues such as the Marché du Film at Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Curious about Atuel? Check out the trailer below to get a sneak peek of this extraordinary game.

So, What Do You Do in Atuel, the Documentary Game?

Atuel takes you on a journey through the Atuel River Valley in Argentina, a region of stunning beauty facing the challenges of climate change. Rather than a traditional game, Atuel is an immersive experience where you transform into various animals and elements of the ecosystem, allowing you to become part of the landscape itself.

One moment you might find yourself soaring through the sky as a bird, and the next, you're flowing as the river. The game integrates real-life interviews with historians, biologists, geologists, and local residents, who share insights into the region's history, current condition, and the future shaped by climate change.

Matajuegos partnered with the international documentary team, The 12.01 Project, to weave these stories into the game. Atuel's visuals, inspired by the Cuyo desert, create an almost otherworldly atmosphere that sets the game apart.

While awaiting the Android pre-registration, you can explore more about Atuel on its Steam page or the official website. Upon its mobile release, the game will offer localization in seven new languages and full controller support.
