ASTRA: Knights of Veda Removing English Dubbing After Maintenance
Improving Game Stability and Localization
Developer FLINT announced on January 20th that ASTRA: Knights of Veda will remove English dubbing support on January 23rd, 2025, to enhance game stability and localization quality. Regular maintenance on the 23rd will implement this change, also affecting German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. Korean, English text, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian will remain.
While English text support continues, in-game English voiceovers will be removed. After maintenance, non-Korean regions will default to Japanese voiceovers. This change will not affect players' ability to chat in any previously supported language. FLINT assures players of their commitment to providing better service and experiences.
Other Gacha Games That Removed English Voiceovers
ASTRA: Knights of Veda isn't alone in this decision. Other gacha games, including Square Enix’s War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Yostar Games’ Aether Gazer, and Amazing Seasun Games’ Snowbreak: Containment Zone, have also reduced or eliminated English voiceovers.
Square Enix announced in May 2024 the removal of English voiceovers for future War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius content, starting with Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7. Existing content remains unaffected, with newer content switching to Japanese voiceovers.
In February 2024, Aether Gazer developers cited financial difficulties as the reason for removing all English voiceovers after the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" update. This reallocation of resources prioritizes gameplay, performance, and future content.
Snowbreak: Containment Zone removed English voiceovers in December 2023 (Version 1.4) after evaluating player preferences and aiming for optimal gameplay. Some content now defaults to Japanese voiceovers.
These developer decisions often stem from prioritizing the language preferred by the majority of players or managing resource allocation. Maintaining English voiceovers for years can be expensive, leading developers to prioritize game longevity and other player-valued aspects by reallocating resources.
