Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released

A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility issues for several Assassin's Creed titles. Fortunately, Ubisoft has released patches addressing the problem for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. These updates are automatically applied through Steam, resolving launch and functionality issues for these two games. Players should note that the Origins patch requires 230 MB of free space, while the Valhalla patch needs 500 MB.

However, the issue persists for some Ubisoft games, notably Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which remains affected. While previous patches addressed critical problems in other titles like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, performance issues may still exist. Players experiencing problems with Odyssey are advised to postpone updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a dedicated patch is released.

The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. Reports of game malfunctions surfaced five months before the official 24H2 rollout, highlighting a missed opportunity for preemptive fixes. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Despite this, the majority of games appear unaffected by the update.
