Anbernic Halts U.S. Shipments Due to Tariff Issues
Anbernic, a prominent manufacturer of retro handheld consoles, has temporarily halted all orders destined for the U.S. This decision comes in response to recent changes in U.S. tariff policies, as reported by The Verge. The company advises customers to opt for products shipped from their U.S. warehouse, which remain unaffected by the new import duties, ensuring a seamless purchasing experience. Unfortunately, orders requiring shipment from China will not be processed at this time.
Anbernic has gained recognition for its budget-friendly Game Boy clones, which are typically shipped directly from China upon release, with additional stock stored in U.S. warehouses. However, their website allows customers to select between U.S. and Chinese shipping options. Not all products are available from the U.S. warehouse, meaning popular items like the Anbernic RG CubeXX and RG 406H are currently unavailable to American customers.
The U.S. tariff landscape has shifted significantly under the Trump administration, with tariffs on Chinese imports reaching up to 145%. There's even a potential increase to 245% for specific goods like electric vehicles. These tariffs often lead to increased costs that are passed on to consumers, affecting the prices of tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and gaming laptops.
Anbernic is actively seeking solutions to mitigate the impact of customs fees on its customers during this challenging period. They are committed to resolving these issues swiftly to resume normal service.
In related news, Nintendo recently unveiled the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct. Originally, pre-orders for the console were scheduled to start in early April in the U.S., but due to uncertainties surrounding tariffs, both in the U.S. and Canada, the pre-order date has been postponed to April 24. Nintendo has maintained the $449.99 price for the Switch 2 console and its games, but has increased the prices of most Switch 2 accessories to offset the tariff-related costs.
