"First Adult LEGO Buy: Mario Set, No Regrets"

Apr 22,25

As a practical person, I've always focused on purchasing essentials and occasionally splurging on video games during sales. However, last year marked a change when I finally ventured into buying a LEGO set, something I considered unnecessary until then. Despite my childhood love for LEGO, I had drifted away from it, likely due to the high costs associated with sets, especially those tied to popular franchises like movies or video games.

It took a while for me to justify the expense, but the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant caught my eye. It had been on sale since October of last year for under $50, and I eventually decided my desk needed a new potted plant.

My interest in this set was sparked after reading IGN's review of the Piranha Plant. As a long-time fan of the Mario franchise, this set seemed like the perfect way to showcase my enthusiasm. While LEGO's botanical line offers appealing flower sets, none could match the whimsical and slightly terrifying charm of the Piranha Plant.

Having built the set, I'm thrilled to have it on my desk. It brings me joy to imagine I'm in the Mushroom Kingdom, tending to my little potted Piranha Plant during work hours. The building process itself was enjoyable; I completed it in one afternoon, yet it was challenging enough to keep me engaged throughout. This is currently my only LEGO Nintendo set, but my positive experience has me considering expanding my collection.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend on a LEGO Set You Love?

LEGO sets can be a pricey indulgence, especially with new adult-targeted sets priced at $200 or more. It's easy to overspend on something fantastic, yet it's important to balance treating yourself with financial responsibility.

The fact that the Mario LEGO set was under $50 made me feel comfortable with my purchase. The hours spent building it, and the daily joy it brings me, justify the cost in my eyes. While the happiness it provides is probably worth more than $50, that's my personal spending limit.
