A young Black woman in Detroit journeys through time, revisiting pivotal moments in her family's past. DOT'S HOME, a captivating single-player 2D narrative adventure, unfolds within her grandmother's cherished home. This interactive experience explores the complex interplay of race, place, and home, challenging players with difficult decisions.
Players witness the impact of harmful systems on communities through the eyes of those directly affected. Faced with choices about where to live amidst historical injustices like redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification, DOT'S HOME prompts reflection: "How did your family arrive where they are today, and how much agency did they truly possess?"
DOT'S HOME is a product of the Rise-Home Stories project—a three-year collaboration between multimedia artists and housing justice activists. Their shared goal is to reshape our understanding of community by reimagining its past, present, and future through the stories we tell.
